Well, even if the solar storage didn't need platinum it needs a couple of other resources whose availability is peaking. Not sure about cobalt, but phosphate, though still "readily available" is peaking at the global level. The technology also requires water, which increasingly doesn't come for free.

I'm not convinced from that article, I'm pretty sure that their revolutionary hydrogen maker will still use platinum as a catalyst for the production of hydrogen. And that is an expensive precious metal whose production is peaking.
If it didn't need it, that would be the headline.
