[Trusties] Useful Street trees?

Hey all,

Searching for info and preferably concrete examples of street trees
in Australia that are 'useful' - ie fruit or nut bearing...

My sister is on council and wants to have another crack at lobbying
for street trees in her town that are, infact, of use...

I am aware that there have been many failed attempts at this sort of
thing due to concerns about fruit-fly, it looking 'messy' etc etc etc
- however, can anyone point me in the direction of some successful
examples of this strategy in Australia? This particular situation
needs to get thru council, so I'm not really after "just rip the
buggers out and replant with cumquats" suggestions, unless I could
then veneer that example to make it look like it had been sanctioned...

I would, at a pinch, take examples within schools etc, and also
overseas examples of this...

Thanks in advance,

Kirsten
