Subject: FW: Volunteer needed for XO laptop project Thailand! hi Leigh,
This is from a very good friend of mine who is doing some great work in abeautiful part Northern Thailand. I visited her recently and believethis is an excellent opportunity for some philanthropic natured person. Could you please pass it on to your yoga network.

Do you know anyonewho might be interested? Please pass iton....Thank you!Jildou Fang, Chiang Mai, ThailandWe are seeking avolunteer English teacher for a minimum of 2 months in a school in northernThailand. The volunteerwill support a group of 23 students with an age ranging from 8 – 12 yearsold who are taking part of a project-based learning program, using OLPC XOlaptops. For this project the students will come together every day to workwith their XO laptop and learn English. The children will be doing creativelearning projects covering their school subject such as maths, writing, art, biology and music. An important part of this project is that the students needto be immersed in the English language asthis will open up their possibilitiesof using the laptop online. To make thelaptop project successful we need the help of an enthusiastic teacher who canprovide lessons for these children. With lessons we do mean fun activities andactive interaction. It is most important to get the students exited aboutlearning a new language and develop a intrinsic motivation for learning. Welook for a teacher who is aware that children have different learning stylesand is able to adapt lessons and activities to the needs of the individualchild. So this is not boring ‘chalk and talk’ job but a chance tomake learning fun and active! There is helpfrom the local teachers as well as from the project facilitator. The work is ina supervised environment yet with a lot of room for personal input. The localteacher has great English skills and will be available for translation and helpwhenever needed. The XO laptopproject has also a need for involvement from the volunteer teacher. Even thoughthe first task is to teach English, it would be desirable to support the localteacher with ideas for projects and creative ways to get the children excitedto learn and explore. Concrete taskswill be:- Prepare, plan and guidelessons.- Plan language activities andgames.- Support the local teacher indeveloping simple projects about e.g. animals, different countries, nature etc. The candidate does not require teaching qualifications but shouldhave an interest in education and a basic knowledge of computers and theinternet. While not required to be a native speaker they should possess goodEnglish skills in speaking, reading and writing. Most importantly they shouldposses an enthusiasm and resourcefulness to engage children.

The candidate will be given lodgings and will receive support and instructionfrom both the local teachers running the project as well as the projectfacilitator, Jildou Brouwer. All up the position is for 25 - 30 hours per weekwith plenty of free time to explore this beautiful area. A scooter is providedfor transport.
