Some examples
Fruit Trees Reducing Carbon Emisions...
Australian office, NSW - Vodaphone, Pacific Highway , Chatswood - north side of Sydney - lilli pilli (vit C) inground, landscaped by brick work with cherry guava's (vit C) the inhabitants of these buildings dont even know the luscious fruit they could be consuming, the trees look healthy despite the car exhaust - I visit my parents each year around Jan- Feb and pick the fruit add it to my nuts, seeds and dried collection as i go to the train station each day to visit friends and family - right soil right sunshine on south west sid of building in courtyard mostly protected from the howling winds.
mytles are a beautiful sideline - great for your hotwater in your travel mug plus honey
guava's are easy to spot when ripe,
olive tree - antioxidants - eat one leaf every morning - imagaine the signage as you are walking the street - pick me i am ready now, the month or season
fruit trees unite, stand up, get planted and be counted one by one, eaten one by one
the fruit fly is best approached with the following mix - mashed fruit from tree, yeast or flour to swell, little water, recycled drink continer full of holes about water line hanging from the tree.
issues: bat colonies - plant more figs they love them and will stay away from other low lying trees
suggest contacting www.daleysfruit.com.au
good luck with your street smart approach

Hey all,
Searching for info and preferably concrete examples of street trees in Australia that are 'useful' - ie fruit or nut bearing...
My sister is on council and wants to have another crack at lobbying for street trees in her town that are, infact, of use...
I am aware that there have been many failed attempts at this sort of thing due to concerns about fruit-fly, it looking 'messy' etc etc etc - however, can anyone point me in the direction of some successful examples of this strategy in Australia? This particular situation needs to get thru council, so I'm not really after "just rip the buggers out and replant with cumquats" suggestions, unless I could then veneer that example to make it look like it had been sanctioned...
I would, at a pinch, take examples within schools etc, and also overseas examples of this...
Thanks in advance,
Kirsten
